May 31 - June 23, 2024
The Helen Hayes Award-winning show from 2022 is back . . . this time, traveling to different venues throughout DC.
One of the most widely-published and highly-acclaimed writers of her generation, poet, playwright, and essayist June Jordan was known for her fierce commitment to human rights and political activism. A contemporary of Alice Walker and Adrienne Rich, Jordan “spent her life stitching together the personal and political so the seams didn’t show.”
With June Jordan’s own words as the core, Poetry for the People brings together words, music, post-it notes, and the many other media that tell the story of a life well-lived.

As always, Theater Alliance reserves at least 10 tickets per performance as Name Your Own Price. Although we no longer have a permanent home in Anacostia, we hope our former geographic neighbors always feel welcome and celebrated, no matter where we perform.
Theater Alliance is bringing Poetry For The People TO the People in every quadrant of DC and it feels so right! We can’t wait to meet you in your community at these exciting new venues. Theater Alliance is making vital and vibrant theater for all of DC and in June’s own words . . . .
