ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence: Core Theater

Theater Alliance has been chosen to pilot a Core Theater program with ENOUGH!, and will implement this new play development curriculum as our primary education programming with DC youth. Our teaching artists will promote playwriting as a tool for self-expression and social change, as we support these teens in confronting gun violence by creating new works of theater that spark conversations and inspire meaningful action in their community.

Hidden Voices, NYU in DC, European Union

Theater Alliance will present a play reading of COUNT: Stories from America’s Death Row in partnership with Hidden Voices, NYU, and The European Union. A participatory evening of engagement to challenge, strengthen, and connect through the transformative power of story and make room for those whose voices have been under or misrepresented. COUNT will instigate action on the pressing issues of America’s prison system and death row for a more just and safe country for all.

National Institutes of Health

A multi-year partnership with the National Institute of Health, NIH Storytelling for Health will empower people to share positive stories about health in the Black community. We’ll build on Theater Alliance’s IDEA workshop curriculum, using devising tools and narrative writing practice, to support community members in sharing their own stories. This program will inspire positive health, create intergenerational conversation, and use art-making as a tool for personal advocacy.

Radical Neighboring & Tickets for Kids

We believe in radical inclusion, and work to break down barriers that have historically deterred and disenfranchised people from accessing theater. Our Radical Neighboring Initiative ensures that all community members can experience our productions, and we offer Admission for Donation tickets, which ensures that the cost of a ticket doesn’t stand in the way of someone attending a show. We also partner with Tickets for Kids to help young people experience the joys of live theater at a formative age, without the barrier of financial expense.
