Submit Your Play For Season 13’s Hothouse New Play Development Series

Theater Alliance wants you to submit your play for our Season 13 Hothouse New Play Development Series! 

We are looking for up to 4 DC-Area Playwrights to work with us over the course of the year to develop their work with the help of local artists. Hothouse playwrights will work with Theater Alliance, a director, a dramaturge, and a group of actors to explore their work in-depth through a week-long rehearsal process and participate in a series of pubic readings.

Season 13 Hothouse Playwrights will have their play read by a team of actors at the 2015 Kennedy Center Page-to-Stage Festival and be able to hear early audience feedback to continue working on the script.

Following the initial reading in September 2015, each playwright will have one dedicated week of rehearsal with their team in October 2015 with which to explore their play even more. At the end of each week of development, each playwright will have their work performed by their team of actors at a public reading produced by Theater Alliance and will have the chance to participate in an audience discussion following the reading.

Please submit your work by emailing submission materials to submissions@theateralliance.com with the subject HOTHOUSE SEASON 13 – YOUR NAME. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

Submission Materials:

1. Playwright’s Resume

2. An artistic statement discussing the play you wish to explore with us and goals for further development (e.g. questions about the plot or story, ideas to discuss about the characters).

3. A PDF file of the script you wish you develop. Please title your PDF with YOUR NAME – TITLE OF PLAY.PDF

Eligibility:

1. You must be 18 years of age and have the right to work in the United States.

2. You must reside in the DC-Metro Area, in order to fully participate in the series and attend all rehearsals.

3. The submitted play must not have had a professional production, or be scheduled for a professional production, prior to August 2016. A professional production is one in which the artists involved were compensated for their time and/or the the theatrical elements were fully realized onstage. Scripts with previous staged readings are acceptable.

4. You may submit one original or adapted work, provided that the rights to any work adapted that does not reside in the public domain has been granted in writing and a copy of the rights can be provided. No musical theater works will be accepted for development within the Hothouse.

5. Only complete electronic submissions will be accepted.
