What is I.D.E.A. ?

Many of us are familiar with I.D.E.A. — shorthand for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility. But each of our lived experience, and the identities we hold, gives us a unique perspective into how these themes play out in real life. Theater Alliance has developed a workshop curriculum that can travel to meet the needs of all places and populations, asking participants to unpack what these words signify to them, what growth they want to see within their community, and how the values of I.D.E.A. could better be upheld. The week-long workshop activities culminate in a performance that can continue conversations around I.D.E.A. for artists and audiences alike. A DMV I.D.E.A

In March 2023, Theater Alliance brought college students from local universities together for a week-long devised theater workshop around the ideas of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (I.D.E.A.).

Over the course of a week and a half, students from Howard University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Bowie State University, and University of Maryland worked to define I.D.E.A as a group through conversation, art-making, and performance, ultimately creating a 30-40 minute performance piece. Performances shared this work with audiences at the Anacostia Playhouse, as well as Georgetown and George Washington campuses.

A Global I.D.E.A.

Theater Alliance’s A Global I.D.E.A. Project, an international Arts Envoy in partnership with India-based NGO Contact Base and the U.S. State Department to celebrate diversity and foster equity, inclusion, and accessibility on the global stage in October 2022.

A Global I.D.E.A. brought together 20 artists from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and the United States to develop and devise a new play, then took the play on a tour throughout India to engage local communities.
