Announcing our 50/50 Campaign to Support Season 14
Dear Friend of Theater Alliance,
At the start of every season I ask myself: Why do we make theater? Why does Theater Alliance need to exist? Are the stories we tell important, and relevant to our community? Is everyone welcome and invited to share and participate in the experience?
In the past season we expanded our community outreach to local high schools with special weekday matinees of our repertory productions of for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf and Word Becomes Flesh; participated in the Women’s Voices Theater Festival, the largest festival of new plays written by women; and were nominated for 12 Helen Hayes Awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play for both Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea and Occupied Territories.
Now, as I look ahead to the upcoming season, a season that asks important questions about gun violence and communal healing, immigration and what connects us as people, and the twin legacies of racism and sexism in our present society, I am fortified that the work we do is not only vital, but that there is still so much that we must to do as a nation, and as a people. Which is why we need your help.
Today we are kicking off our 50/50 Campaign. The goal: to raise $50,000 in 50 days. Your contribution will go directly to expanding our Radical Neighboring Initiative, sustaining our new play development and mainstage productions, and ensuring the financial and creative stability of our company.
Over the next 50 days we will be sharing stories from artists, collaborators, patrons, and friends, about why Theater Alliance is a valuable force in the community, what your support can mean for the company, and what we hope to achieve together.
In a world filled with animosity and division, we need more places where people can come together across boundaries, places where we can not only share an experience, but also share our hopes, perspectives, and dreams with one another. The theater is that place for us. We hope you will join us in fostering a space for community, action, and healing.
With love and thanks,
Producing Artistic Director
