Closing Weekend!

It’s closing weekend of Spark and we are thrilled to announce that we have three guest groups coming to this weekend’s performances.

Tonight, Thursday, we will host representatives from The All Veterans Garden. A program run by the Veterans Affairs Department, All Vets Garden provides a therapeutic program for veterans transitioning back to civilian life. Veterans learn about nutrition, gardening, and leading a healthy life style while making things grow. The All Veterans Garden offers college classes in horticulture and the like. We look forward to hearing what The All Veterans Garden and representatives from the VA have to say about reintegration and recovery!

Saturday at 2pm we will speak with representatives from My Girlfriend’s House! My Girlfriend’s House is a nonprofit that promotes positive mentorship to at-risk girls in the DC area. Their mission is to “empower under-served young ladies to develop a positive understanding of self-worth while enhancing their academic and career skills.” This is an all-volunteer group that understands the need to grow the whole person, from student, to friend, to contributing member of society. While empowering young women to believe in themselves, My Girlfriend’s House encourages young women to give back to their own communities and lead the next generation of strong women.

Sunday at 2pm we’ll be joined by Women as Veteran Entrepreneurs (WAVE). WAVE provides a forum for female veteran-owned small businesses. It provides the success strategies for working with the government, opportunities to mean with contractors, networking opportunities, and ways to support one another. We look forward to hearing WAVE’s perspective on what it is to be a female veteran and the opportunities for success upon returning home.
